Beauty can be found in anything. That very idea is what inspires me to create graceful images that are conveyed through the mediums of photography and sculpture. Whether it be the intricate weaving and swirls of celtic knotwork, a building settling into decay or the uniqueness of the human form, beauty is present. Most of my work has been and continues to be inspired from my travels to Ireland. It's a very magical place and I feel very blessed that my celtic muse connected with me when my feet first touched irish soil. It's a partnership that continues to this very day.
My photography has been the result of several, very lengthy relationships that I have had with three very different cameras. Initially it was the Kodak tele-instamatic camera with flip-flash that I received when I was eight years old as a gift, then came the Nikon FM2 that I learned the technical skills of photography on while at university, and most recently I acquired my current digital Pentax K10D. Photography offers a freedom that other artistic mediums don't. The process is quick and allows me to capture and share moments, emotions and states of being that might otherwise not have been acknowledged.
Being able to convey what is floating around in my imagination in a solid and dimensional form using metal, wood or other materials is sculpture's appeal to me. My sculptures fuse abstract, figural, natural and celtic themes. I explore celtic knots, fairy tales and mythological characters (either established or of my own making). The entire process of creating a sculpture, although often times (quite often really) is very frustrating, it's also very fulfilling.
